Food Processing Training Centre (FPTC) started functioning under Council for Food Research and Development (CFRD) with the following objectives

  1. To train interested youths, women and self help groups with skills and knowledge to develop as new entrepreneurs
  2. To train Managers and Supervisors for effective supervision of production, quality assurance and food safety in food and beverage industry.
  3. To organise and conduct training programmes relating to Food Safety (HACCP – ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System)
  4. To ensure the provision of trained manpower in line with the current demands for Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
  5. FPTC will identify training and education needs of the food industry relating to hygiene & sanitation, good manufacturing practices, value addition and food safety and offer necessary training programmes.

Particular emphasis is given for food processing, value addition, quality assurance and food safety reflecting the growing health concerns of the consumers and the demand for safe and convenient food products.

Facilities Available in Food Processing Training Centre (FPTC)

  1. Food Processing Laboratory

FPTC has all facilities for conducting the training programmes effectively. The processing Section is having equipments like juice extractor, pulper, air dehydrator, cabinet tray drier, prooving cabinet, cookies depositor machine, LPG/ electrical oven, autoclave, canning machine, continuous  sealer, Vacuum packaging machine etc.

Development of need based products

FPTC has the facilities to develop new products as per the requirements of the food industry

Technologies for commercialization 

Technology for the following products is available for commercialization

  1. Preparation and packaging of ready to eat breakfast cereals
  2. Preparation of ready to use canned chicken curry

Training Programme for Food Safety Officers of Government of Kerala on 

Food Safety Management Systems- ISO 22000:2005 and Audit

  • The training programme from 22-04-2014 to 25-04-2014 was attended by 29 Food Safety Officers of Government of Kerala. The training programme from 06-10-2015 to 09-10-2015 was attended by 29 Food Safety Officers. The topics covered are FSMS General requirements, Management responsibility and resource management, planning and realization of safe products, PRPS (GMP) and OPRS (Hygiene and sanitation), Preparations of flow chart, operation of hazard analysis, preparation of plan forms and HACCP manual, Control of Non-conformance, planning, verification, audit to detect and control non-conformance, Food Safety Audit and preparation of audit report.

All India Training on Food Safety Management Systems – ISO 22000:2005

The training programme from 26-05-2015 to 29-05-2015 on Food Safety Management Systems was attended by 31 Food Safety Officers and from 6-10-2015 to 09-10-2015 was attended by 12 Food Safety Officers.

Training programmes on “ Inspection of quality of food grains & Acts and Regulations on Food and Other Essential Commodities” for officials of Department of Civil Supplies

A total of 13 training programmes for duration of 4 days and 2 days were conducted benefitting 321 officials of department of Civil Supplies and rationing inspectors of Government of Kerala. 4 days training programme covered acts and regulations on food and other essential commodities. 2 days training programme on Inspection of quality of food grains.
